Week 12

The die bold machines are susceptible to fraud a vandalism if stolen. They can be installed with a type of virus that will reverse some votes or add votes to ballot. They produce fraudulent votes and this virus can be spread from machine to machine. More security needs to be enacted in every state to insure these issues don't arise.

week 9 writing assignment

The issue of downloading of things for no charge or the burning of things is a topic that is both controversial and hard to figure out, because of the various scenarios and outcomes that come about. I feel that downloading a song for intentions on buying the album is fine. I also feel if an artist approves of the downloading of his or her song for reasons like promoting is also acceptable. As for as reasons not to download I feel that if someone likes a song but doesn’t have the money to buy the album that is something that should be acknowledge. Reasons like just stealing, being lazy, or having no conscious about downloading media that people depend on to make money is unacceptable. I feel each case is different and it is up to us as humans to police ourselves, incorporating morals and ethics when we go about making decisions.

week 7 writing assignment digital versus analog

Well analog is an older compatibility that often creates and often has problems with noise when things are trying to be downloaded or recorded. Digital waves are signals that come from satellites in bit form, and usually when the bits are in order then sound are pictures flow all at once and record nicely. This is the same thing that can be said with the digital HD TV’s that people have. Often not only are the pictures cleaner and sharper, but there are often no signal failures. The digital age has really helped the world advance in today’s age.

week 6 writing assignment

Well the way things are smuggled into these countries is kind of by mutual agreement. Since the U.S. is reach yet stingy in the same way, they ship these e-waste recyclables to other countries who are poor and in need of these valuables like; Computers, cell phones, calculators, and TV’s which they dissect and use to get value. So basically the taxes are high in the U.S. to recycle so they send it to other countries in need of the valuables. Another issue is how these things are smuggled into these other countries. The U.S. is very clever in there means of transportation of these “goods”. They will often send them with “legitimate goods”, because there where U.S. laws made in 2000 to slow exports of e-waste junk to china for these environmentally unhealthy recycling deities.
One way for us as U.S. citizens to slow these exporting fiascos is to buy things that are environmentally safe, or things that are made of natural or biodegradable resources. Another is to use electronics to the fullest. If there is something that is old or you don’t use anymore why not try selling or donating it. This will go along way in helping these electronics stay in the U.S. as long as they can

Net Neutrality

1.)Network Neutrality debates rise mostly in rights of consumers and smaller sites, and the ability to stifle consumers and sites because of these larger providers like AT&T and their relationships of carriers like yahoo or Google. Network neutrality allows consumers and producers rights to be fulfilled.

2.)People that are pro net neutrality are small corporations and people who believe in having a democracy. Network neutrality makes the internet unfair and violates citizen’s rights.

3.)Comcast and AT&T are big corporations against network neutrality. They want to ensure that they work hand and hand with the internet carriers so that when the people that want the best deal in a carrier they have to pay the providers more money for that and this is exploiting the people and ensuring that this big corporations still stay rich.

4.)I personally feel that net neutrality keeps everyone’s rights open and help instill that no one get an upper hand in the internet world.

Cybersquatting Good or Bad?

I feel cyber squatting is overall used for bad intent. I feel if someone is not trying to advocate for another company and perhaps help them out and then sell their company domain for more money for the benefit or advancement of another company, then this is something not right to do. If they are not helping the company out for the greater good, then advocating or buying their domain shouldn’t be allowed.

Below are some guidelines to help choose worthy domain holders:

Pick someone is known or accredited and have a nice background about.
Choose reliable advocacies that have positively influenced other companies.
Pick people who are not necessarily in it for the money but to help others which in turn will help themselves
When selling back domain names, reasonable prices should be offered.

I feel that people who cyber squat to benefit themselves solely, or who have demeaning intent should not be allowed to access domain names. If certain things that a company is distributing are unfair or unlawful there are other alternate routes to go about bringing them to justice.

Internet technology the dark and the bright side

Internet technology has allowed me to communicate with others across the world in has made time and space compress. The internet allows things to travel at the speed of light and recieve information fast as well. Anything you need to know about are either on various websites or search engines. The intenet has made my social and educational life very easy. Along with all the positives of the internet comes many negatives like privacy and sensory issues. Take websites like Facebook and Myspace. No longer are you able to communicate privately, everyone can now see what you are writing, when you are writing, ,and to who you are writing. The internet has made privacy an issue. The internet also has a lot of explicit things on it. Internet use can be helpful for some but exploitation for others. While there are both dark and bright spots for internet technology one thing is certain and that is to many people have relied on the internet. The internet is fueled by a machine and at any point those machines can crash. It is on us to rely somewhat on ourselves rather then a man-made machine.

A little bit about myself.

Hello everybody My name is Dior Lowhorn and I am a Junior here at USF. I am 20 years old and am a Environmental Studies major here. I was born and raised right here in San Francisco's portola district and proud to be a San Franciscan. Along with going to school here at USF I play on the basketball team here. Besides school and basketball some of my other hobbies include; Shopping, animals, and hanging out with my teammates. One interesting fact about me is that in my college basketball career I am the only player to play for two coaches that have over 800 careers wins.
